ChurchRide
Passenger Safety

Travelling safely, together.

ChurchRide exists to help congregations get to worship safely and reliably. These guidelines explain what to expect as a passenger and how we all share responsibility for a safe, comfortable journey for everyone on board.

Before You Travel

Booking and being ready for your ride.

  • Book your seat through the ChurchRide member app before the booking deadline shown on the run.
  • Make sure your saved pickup address is correct and complete — including a valid postcode — so the driver can find you.
  • If you no longer need the ride, cancel your booking in the app as early as possible so the seat can go to someone else.
  • Be ready at your pickup point a few minutes before the scheduled time.

During Pickup

Meeting the driver at the right place.

  • Wait at the exact address you saved — the driver follows an optimised route and cannot search for you.
  • Have your phone with you in case the driver sends a quick message through the app.
  • Let the driver know if you will need help boarding (e.g. a walking aid, or assistance with steps).
  • If you booked for someone else, ensure they are ready and that the driver knows who they are collecting.

On the Bus

Staying safe while travelling.

  • Always wear your seatbelt while the vehicle is moving — it is a legal requirement.
  • Stay seated until the vehicle has fully stopped at your destination.
  • Keep aisles clear of bags and walking aids so everyone can board and exit safely.
  • Follow any instructions from the driver — they are responsible for everyone's safety on board.
  • Avoid distracting the driver with conversation while the vehicle is moving, especially in busy traffic.

Expected Conduct

Looking after each other on the journey.

  • Treat the driver and fellow passengers with kindness and respect.
  • No eating, drinking, or smoking/vaping on the bus, to keep it clean for everyone.
  • Keep noise reasonable — some passengers value a quiet journey, especially on the way to a service.
  • Take your belongings with you when you leave. Report any lost items to the church admin.

Accessibility & Assistance

Helping everyone travel with dignity.

  • If you use a wheelchair, mobility aid, or need step-free access, let the church admin know in advance so the right vehicle is assigned.
  • Carers and companions are welcome — include them in your booking so seats are reserved.
  • Parents travelling with young children should bring appropriate car seats where the vehicle requires them.
  • If you need a regular pickup at a set time (e.g. every Sunday), speak to the admin about recurring bookings.

Emergencies & Concerns

What to do if something isn't right.

  • In an emergency on board, stay calm and follow the driver's instructions.
  • If you feel unwell during the journey, tell the driver immediately so they can stop safely.
  • If you miss your pickup, contact the driver or church admin through the app — do not attempt to catch the bus on the road.
  • For safeguarding concerns about a driver, passenger, or run, report it to your church admin or the ChurchRide support team.
